Vanessa Anderson Shaffer, age 58, of Wyalusing, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at home with her loving family at her side.
Vanessa was born on Jan. 18, 1954 at home in Terry Twp, daughter of the late Raymond "Smokey" and Dorothy Benjamin Anderson. She graduated from the Wyalusing High School in the class of 1971. She married Richard C. Shaffer of Wyalusing on Oct. 15, 1977. She was a homemaker but was employed for several years as a Baker at the former Honchell's Market in Wyalusing.
Vanessa was a member of The Wyalusing Methodist Church, Wyalusing. She loved spending time with her family and friends and especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling with her sister Laura's team, the "Contacts," in the Wyalusing Women's Bowling League.
Surviving are her spouse, Richard C. Shaffer at home; sons and daughter-in-law Richard R. and Colleen Shaffer of Wyalusing and Calvin Shaffer of Wyalusing; brother George Anderson and Norma Lee Farrell of Wyalusing; sisters and brothers-in-law Martha (Arthur) Cole of Towanda and Jan (Russell) Williams of Wyalusing; grandchildren Zachary and Isaac Shaffer of Wyalusing; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Laura E. Loyack on Dec. 31, 2011, a brother-in-law, Robert A. Loyack Sr. on Dec. 4, 1999, and a nephew, Jacob Drew Heeman on Feb. 16, 2006.
To honor Vanessa's wishes there will be no funeral service, but friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m on Monday, July 23, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home.
The family will provide the flowers and requests that Memorial Contributions be sent to the Wyalusing Fire Department, PO Box 86, Wyalusing, PA 18853.
