Jack G. Burgess, 76, 417 State St. Towanda, Pa., passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012.
Jack was born May 12, 1936 in Williamsport, Pa., a son of the late Orin W. and Ruby Lormor Burgess. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Navy. Jack was employed by GTE Sylvania in Towanda for 24 years until his retirement and was subsequently employed by Wal-Mart for 12 years until his recent retirement. In early years, Jack coached Towanda Little League Baseball. He was an active member of Towanda American Legion Post No. 42.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Clara Allen Burgess; four sons, Jeffery (Angie) Burgess — and children Desi and Amber, Gene (Rose) Burgess — and children Jason and Andrew Shipman, Brian Burgess and Randy Burgess — and children Zack and Mitchell; a daughter Deborah Winslow — and children Matthew and Ben Winslow; great-grandchildren Courtney Jasmine, Remington and Lynden Shipman; a brother Orin Burgess of Los Angeles, Calif.; half-sisters Carol Ann Scheesley of Jersey Shore, Pa. and Kathy Marsh of Pleasant Mills, Pa., several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012 at the funeral home with Rev. James Hollister, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Towanda officiating.
Interment will follow in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa. with Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 according full military honors.
