Frederic C. "Fred" Sidney Jr. 83, of Wysox, Pa., passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2012 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa. "Fred," as he was known by his family and friends, was born May 19, 1929 in Elmwood, Conn., a son of Frederic C. Sidney Sr. and Gladys Johnson Sidney.
He was a graduate of Lawrence Academy Preparation School in Groton, Mass. In early years, Fred moved from Connecticut to Durell, Pa., where he engaged in farming for a brief period. He was later employed by Masonite Corporation in Wysox for 30 years until his retirement. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Towanda.
Surviving are his wife, Claire C. Simoneau Sidney, at home; daughters Cheryl (Donald) Hewitt of Forest Grove, Ore., Ardell (Shawn) Manning of Belleville, Ill., Dael Sidney (Jeff) Hawley of Wellington, Fla.; step-daughters Elaine (Raymond) Dorazio of Lime Hill, Pa., Jane (Jack) Robinson of Stevensville, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; 6 great- grandchildren; a brother Robert "Skipp" (Jan) Sidney of Massachusetts; a sister Ruth Weston of Granby, Conn., brothers-in-law Paul (Rose) Simoneau of New York and Florida, Ray (Pat) Simoneau of Chambly, Canada; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa., with Rev. Rachel Stahle, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Towanda, officiating. Interment will be in the Wysox Cemetery, Wysox, Pa.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
