Maurice F. Mattison, age 82, of Waverly, N.Y., also known as "Mouse," passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was a proud 60 year member of the IBEW and a former journeymen/lineman crew chief at Penelec Electric. He was known by many as the unofficial "mayor of Waverly" walking with his distinctive N.Y. Giants attire and his walking stick.
The true joy of his life was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mouse was born Nov. 18, 1929 in Elmira N.Y. to Donald and Iona Mattison. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend Dora in 1985, his parents and a brother Gary "Butch" Mattison.
He is survived by his children Mike and Paula Mattison of Waverly, David and Debbie Mattison of Cary N.C., Timothy and Sandra Mattison of Elmira N.Y., Donald and Debbie Mattison of Waverly N.Y., and Jeffrey and Dawn Mattison of Waverly N.Y.; brothers Donald and Shelva Mattison of Elmira N.Y. and Jack Mattison of Watkins Glen N.Y.; sisters Zoie (Suzie) and Fran Covert of Thomasville Ga. and Sandra Brown of Newfield N.Y.; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous neices and nephews. All who knew him loved him.
A time of gathering with family and friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 at Mattison Bucket Service, 121 William Donnelly Industrial Pkwy, Waverly, NY 14892. The celebration of Maurice's life will be at 4 p.m. with family and friends sharing memories. A luncheon will follow the celebration. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Maurice's memory may be made to one's favorite charity.
