Blithe Spirit Materializes at Corning Community College
10/26/2012 10:16:00 AM
CORNING, NY -- The picture frames are rattling! The table is sliding across the floor! And the laughter is bringing down the house!

Corning Community College’s Muse of Fire Theatre presents Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit, a farce with a ghostly twist. The spooky shenanigans take place November 8, 9, and 10, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Science Amphitheatre in the Science Building on the Spencer Hill campus in Corning, NY. General admission price is $10.00, or $5.00 for students and seniors 65+.

A benefit matinee for CCC’s Interfaith Campus Ministry will be presented Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. All tickets for the benefit are $15.00, and dessert will be served at intermission. Call 607-962-9448 for ticket reservations and additional information.

Charles Condomine is a successful mystery novelist living with his second wife, Ruth, in the charming English village of Kent. Charles is researching his latest book dealing with mediums and the occult. Condomine and Ruth believe mediums to be frauds. To gather information on some of the “tricks of the trade,” they invite the eccentric Madame Arcati, newly arrived in the village, to dinner and a séance. To round out the séance table, the local doctor and his wife are also invited. The social niceties of the Condomine household are on trial as Ruth is trying out the eager but inexperienced new maid, Edith. Before the guests arrive, tiny tensions are evident in the marriage of Charles and Ruth, as they banter about Charles’ first marriage to the beautiful but capricious—and now, sadly, deceased—Elvira. The stage is set for mystery and laughter when, during the séance, Charles gets more than he bargained for.

Blithe Spirit is directed by Mary Guzzy, and the production is designed by Ryan Spruck. This team of talent has brought us the beloved musical Camelot, last fall’s delightful Sylvia, and the timely Three Penny Opera. They now bring us fast-paced laughter and surprise with another solid all-student cast, showcasing the talent of fresh faces and veterans of previous productions: Cameron Bockus, Raymond Bulkley, Shelby Davis, Jessica Malone, Samantha Presler, Megan Quackenbush, and Sasha Seaman. The production has been entered as an Associate Production in Region 2 of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, taking place in January 2013.

Remember to catch this eerie comedy at 7:00 p.m. November 8-10, and at 2:00 p.m. November 11. Reserve tickets for Blithe Spirit today by calling 607-962-9448.
